What's New for the 2017 Ford Mustang?
Still fresh into its sixth production cycle, the iconic Ford Mustang enters the 2017 model year with significant changes to retain its title as the muscle car king. The optional MyFord Touch infotainment system is supplanted by SYNC® 3, which has the benefit of a much more user-friendly interface. Select trims and body styles get black-painted roofs to further amplify the Mustang’s sporty look, as well as turn-signal indicators introduced into the hood vents. Designed as a fastback and a convertible, the 2017 Ford Mustang comes in five trims: V6, EcoBoost, GT, EcoBoost Premium, and GT Premium.
Each of the 2017 Mustang’s three trim levels—V6, EcoBoost, and GT—comes with its unique workhorse. On the V6 is a 3.7-liter V6 that pumps out 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. On the EcoBoost is the 2.3-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder, which has an output of 310 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque, and provides the Mustang with its highest fuel economy numbers: at 22/31 mpg. And on the top-level GT is the large and powerful 5.0-liter V8, which generates 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Each engine is typically linked to a 6-speed manual transmission, with the option to get a 6-speed automatic instead. For entertainment, the 2017 Ford Mustang integrates a six-speaker stereo system with Ford’s original SYNC voice-activated technology, and it includes an AM/FM radio tuner and a single-disc CD player. Upgrading in trim increases your chances of getting or being able to add advanced infotainment features like HD Radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, a 12-speaker Shaker Pro audio system, and the now-available SYNC 3 system.
Standard comfort and convenience features on the vehicle include remote keyless entry to allow access with the key fob, push-button engine start for turning on the engine without the mechanical key, auto dimming on the rearview mirror to tame headlights from behind you, and controls on the steering wheel for easier operation of certain functions. Upper-level features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a garage-door opener, remote vehicle start, adaptive cruise control, and active noise cancellation. The new Ford Mustang comes with dual front impact airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, a pair of front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and two front and two rear side curtain airbags for auto collision protection. Also for safety are the AdvanceTrac system for electronic vehicle stability, a rearview camera for flashing a video image to monitor what’s behind you when backing out, vented four-wheel disc brakes for quick response to brake pad application, and anti-lock braking to prevent the wheels from locking up when coming to a stop.
